TOURING! Norman Nawrocki presents: Cazzarola!

Upcoming! Norman Nawrocki's Cazzarola!  at  Casa Del Popolo | Friday November 15th

"CAZZAROLA! Anarchy, Romani, Love, Italy is a gripping, epic, political, historical novel spanning 130 years in the life of the Discordias, a family of Italian anarchists."

This is what you can read on the official website of Cazzarola, Norman Nawrocki's literature project. I say "project," because he chose to forge an entire soundtrack to go along with his first ever novel. Such a soundtrack is quite enticing.

It oscillates between Italian European folk, full of blue accordion and melancholic vocals, and straight-up storytelling, either through dialog or narration in English, but also Italian. It's gloomy, it reverbates with the sorrow and the hardship of the characters it features.

The universe that Nawrocki created is filled with back alley steam and heavy ambiances, it titillates the ear with weeping cellos, agitated tambourines, angry drums, and delicate guitars. It's a European audio tale of longing, a sad and vibrant poem of the people. It is animated with angst and heartache, it is invested with anguish and elegance.

Here is what the abovementioned official website has to say about this soundtrack:

Cazzarola! Soundtrack is an eccentric mixture of instrumentation that parallels the lineage of Cazza book’s storyline. A two volume set, the world-beat, experimental soundtrack is a fusion of the traditional and the contemporary. Recording for the album began in Italy during Norman’s trip  earlier this year, and is being completed in Montreal. Notably, Norman recorded a vast amount of live audio footage in Italy, from field recording in Abruzzo mountain villages and studios in Italy to the cobbled streets of Rome. The record is co-produced by Norman Nawrocki alongside acclaimed producer Dave Sturton.

Interested? Yeah, me too.

In October, Nawrocki set out across Canada on an innovative book tour that featured live music from Cazzarola! Soundtrack and dramatized excerpts from the novel. After boat-load of shows in Vancouver, he to his tour eastbound through the prairies. Finally, after a keynote speaking at the 2013 Winnipeg Anarchist Bookfair, he has arrived home in Montreal to perform at Casa Del Popolo this Friday, November 15th!

Here's your chance to catch the eclectic entertainer before he heads back on the road to explore the rest of the eastern part of the country. Have a look at cazzarola.ca and make sure to attend what I'm sure will be your first "long-playing novel" (you heard it here first).

The best part? Entrance to the show is free!

So much fun, we're having.
