UPCOMING! Colin Stetson + Sarah Neufeld at Sala Rossa | Friday, May 3rd

UPCOMING! Colin Stetson + Sarah Neufeld at Sala Rossa | Friday, May 3rd

Any music lover will agree: it is utterly thrilling when great musicians decide to team up and form a band. It is always exciting, because, often, the fruit of a common musical effort is unique, it has a life of its own. It is recognizable as a whole, and thus not only as the sum of its parts.

However, let us not forget that each individual part of a memorable band is a gifted musician. Let us also remember that a talented musician rarely exists solely as part of a band, and generally also has an individual artistic expression to deliver to the public.

Case in point: Colin Stetson, a saxophonist and clarinettist (he plays an array of other wind instruments, too) who is an active part of Bon Iver, and who played alongside several heavyweights, including Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, TV on the Radio, Feist, Lou Reed, The National, LCD Soundsystem and David Byrne, also has musical ideas he likes to express on his own. He offered them through two solo records: New History of Warfare Volume 1 (2008), and Volume 2 (2011).

Similarly, Sarah Neufeld, who plays in Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre and The Luyas, sometimes feels compelled to handle her violin as soloist (or to fill her tumblr page with colourful things!).

On Friday, May 3rd, anyone who decides to spend the evening at Sala Rossa will be lucky enough to witness what these gifted artists are capable of doing when they take over the stage on their own. Don’t miss it!
