OHARA EP Launch

OHARA EP Launch + Jordan-Robson Cramer + Daniel Isaiah |  Cagibi

AT THE TURNING POINT  |  KAIVA BRAMMANIS

May 4, 2014 - Cagibi’s a funny place. It’s not hard to see why it’s viewed by many as the epitome of hipsterdom: mismatched vintage chairs and tables are scattered throughout, zines are crammed into empty nooks on the shelves, and girls in oversized sweaters and fellas with mustaches drape themselves artfully over seats in the window. But if you’d rather be listening to tunes than writing poems in your coffee-stained notebook, grab a pint and a dollar taco and head through the door at the back of the café. On the right night, you can stumble upon some great local music.

Cagibi’s red velvet curtains are draped with twinkling lights. The room is full and the lights are turned down low. Tamara Sandor is standing onstage, dressed in a long Victorian dress with a high lace collar and drapey sleeves, head bedecked with a wreath of tiny leaves.

Waterhouse’s back up band really made the show exceptional, not that Waterhouse wasn’t the star, but I would be surprised how bright that star would be able to shine without them. Thus, the first research I undertook for this piece was to try and find the name of the band with which Waterhouse performed − needle in a haystack − and I know they have a name because he said it at the show, I just couldn’t understand what he said.

I stepped off the bus and landed my first foot ankle-deep into icy slush. A sudden burst of “what-is-that-pain-am-I-dying” was followed by a pirouette to land safely on the salt stained Heisenberg-meth coated sidewalk. Good evening Montréal!
